floor & bookshelf

Instead of buying furniture I decided to make my own. By living on the floor I am able to simplify my furniture requirements, making them cheaper and easier to transport. The table uses leftover ends of hollow core doors bolted to the elevated plywood floor, made from two quartered sheets. The bookshelf assembled from 1/2” steel pipe and hollow bi-fold doors. It takes advantage of steel’s strength to cantilever, saving material and allowing me to construct it without power tools.

An exploration of treating cheap materials well. The OSB is mitered on the corners so the strands and the text wrap the wardrobe. The shelves and drawers are made primarily of newsprint with cardboard and wood dowels for structure.

An early project, I worked with my grandfather to construct a frame that could support the seat at four points. The whole chair flexes, responding to the sitter.
